The Alain Hudelot-Noëllat estate is located in Côte de Nuits, in the village of Chambolle-Musigny. Founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot, the estate has 10 hectares spread over 4 villages and 15 appellations. The estate produces, for the most part, red wines from the villages of Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny, Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Is these villages, the estate have the chance to shine part of the most famous Climats as the grands crus Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg ou Clos de Vougeot, and some exceptional Premier Crus as Les Murgers, Les Suchots, Les Beaumonts or the rare and confidential Les Malconsorts. A small cuvee from Burgundy Aligoté vineyards was originally part of the estate, while Clos des Ecoles, in Meursault, was acquired more recently. The estate is now managed by his grandson, Charles van Canneyt, who took the reins of the estate in 2008.
The estate has always produced wines in keeping with the finest Burgundy tradition, and Charles has patiently but steadily brought significant improvements to the estate over the years. He introduced the practice of plowing the soil, de-budding and green harvesting in order to control the yields, as well as a greater use of gravity flow in the cellar to get the best from the grapes and the wine. The gentle pressing of whole clusters during vinification, the use of indigenous yeasts and natural fermentation with little intervention in the winemaking process allow each cuvée to preserve and reveal the identity of its terroir.
After three weeks of fermentation, the wines are aged in barrels for 18 months. The bottling is done the next spring to allow the wines to settle naturally. The cuvées are then slightly filtered and a very low dose of sulphur is added to ensure the stability of the wine.
Purity, precision and depth are the hallmarks of the estate, which constantly excels itself in adding to its wines an extra dose of sensitivity and finesse.
The estate is managed and operated by Charles Van Canneyt. His grandfather, Alain Hudelot, is still present at the property and provides advice when needed.
Founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot, Domaine Alain Hudelot-Noëllat is a relatively new estate in Burgundy. It was extended in the 1970s with the addition of the vineyards owned by his wife, Odile Noëllat, and now spreads over 10 hectares. Alain and Odile’s grandson, Charles Van Canneyt, took over the estate in 2008, as the previous generation did not wish to pursue a winemaking career.
